Amotekun Intercepts Truck Conveying 61 Suspected Criminals into Ondo
**Amotekun Scores Big in Ondo, Foils Criminal Plot to Kidnap in Akure** In a major breakthrough, the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has intercepted a truck carrying 61 suspected criminals into Akure, the state capital. The suspects, concealing themselves among bags of beans on a trailer, were on their way to Akure North Local Government Area, a region plagued by recent spates of kidnapping and violent crimes. According to reports, a total of 95 suspected criminals are currently in custody, with 34 of them paraded before journalists. The remaining 61, intercepted on the trailer, are undergoing profiling and interrogation. The arrests are a result of weeks of coordinated security operations involving Amotekun Corps, the Nigeria Police, the NSCDC, the DSS, and the Nigerian Army. The Amotekun Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, revealed that the suspects include those linked to kidnapping offences in Ilu-Abo Akure, Ayede-Akure, Iloro Camp, and Ogbese. Some were arrested for violating the state anti-grazing law, while others were apprehended for breaching law and order. The corps has been working hard to tackle the rising cases of kidnapping along the Ilu-Abo axis. To address this menace, Amotekun Rangers have set up two static security posts within forest routes and deployed operatives on major highways linking affected communities. The corps is also collaborating with community monitors and local vigilante groups, which has already led to the foiling of five attempted kidnapping incidents in the area. The Amotekun boss has reaffirmed the agency's commitment to inter-agency collaboration and community-based intelligence gathering to curb crime in Ondo State. "Our mandate is to protect lives and property, and we will continue to work with all security stakeholders to nip crime in the bud," he said. The success of Amotekun in Ondo State has raised hopes among residents that the security challenges facing the state may soon be a thing of the past. With sustained efforts from security agencies and community cooperation, the fight against crime in Ondo State is indeed gaining momentum.
