**Lagos Govt Wages War on Environmental Disasters in Ikorodu Markets**
Imagine walking into a bustling market only to be greeted by a putrid stench and overflowing garbage. That's the sorry state of some markets in Ikorodu, Lagos, a scenario the state government is determined to change. In a shocking move, Lagos State Government has served notices of intention to seal several markets, plazas, and commercial premises in Ikorodu for non-compliance with environmental regulations.
The clampdown is part of the state government's ongoing efforts to enforce environmental laws and promote proper waste management in Lagos. The Waste Investigation, Surveillance, and Enforcement unit of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority has been conducting routine inspections across selected locations in Ikorodu. The affected sites include popular markets like Ladega Market and Better Life Market, as well as commercial premises like the Ominu Ajasa & Royal Family Premises.
According to the government, the affected markets and occupants have been given 72 hours to comply with the notice or face severe consequences. This is not the first time the Lagos state government has taken action against environmental infractions in the state. Recently, they sealed off the infamous Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road over repeated environmental infractions.
The government's move is a welcome development for residents and visitors to the affected areas. Poor waste management is a major headache for Lagosians, and the government's enforcement drive is seen as a bold step towards addressing the issue. By promoting proper waste management and discouraging illegal street trading, the state government hopes to make Lagos a cleaner and more livable city. The 72-hour ultimatum serves as a warning to market operators and occupants to shape up and do their part in keeping Lagos clean.
