**Nigeria and China Unite to Boost Gas Infrastructure** In a significant move aimed at bolstering Nigeria's gas sector, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Gas Holdings Limited and Peiyang Chemical Singapore PTE Ltd. (PCCS). This historic agreement is expected to usher in a new era of collaboration in Nigeria's quest for a more robust gas infrastructure. The MoU, which was signed at NNPC's headquarters in Abuja, brings together key stakeholders from both countries to explore ways of advancing Nigeria's gas value chain. This includes developing liquefied natural gas (LNG), gas-fired power generation, and industrial facilities that utilise domestic gas feedstock. By aligning international technical expertise with Nigeria's domestic energy priorities, the MoU provides a formalised governance structure to drive identified opportunities from technical feasibility to commercial operations. According to PCCS Managing Director, Tim Tian, the partnership is designed to combine proven modular engineering with locally grounded commercial structures that make projects investible and deliverable. This, he says, will be crucial in converting Nigeria's gas resources into jobs, reliable power, and industrial growth. The signing of the MoU was followed by an extensive programme of engagement by the China Gas and PCCS delegation across Nigeria's energy sector, including meetings with Heirs Energies Limited, refinery leadership, and the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI). The delegation also conducted site inspections at operational facilities, providing direct operational insight into compression systems, daily throughput levels, fleet utilisation, and transport-linked gas demand. With the framework now in place, the parties will proceed with technical evaluations and structured commercial discussions in line with the agreed scope. This partnership is a significant step forward in Nigeria's quest to unlock the full potential of its gas sector. As the country continues to grapple with the challenges of energy poverty and infrastructure development, the collaboration with China is expected to bring much-needed expertise and investment to drive growth and development.
