**Oyebanji Empowers Persons With Disabilities in Ekiti: Navigating the Challenges of Inclusive Governance**
In a heartening display of commitment to social protection and inclusive governance, the Ekiti State Government has rolled out a programme aimed at cushioning the effects of economic hardship on vulnerable residents, particularly persons with disabilities (PWDs). Under the leadership of Special Adviser, Princess Adetoun Agboola, the Office of Special Education and Social Inclusion coordinated a three-day exercise to distribute food items and cash assistance to PWDs across the state.
This thoughtful initiative reflects the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who has made the welfare, rights, and inclusion of PWDs a priority. Speaking at the distribution event, Princess Agboola highlighted the administration's commitment to enhancing the quality of life of PWDs through various policies and programmes. These initiatives range from upgrading special schools with modern equipment and recruiting specialised personnel to establishing therapy centres and empowering PWDs through skills acquisition and financial support.
The distribution of food items and cash assistance is a testament to the government's compassion and genuine desire to improve the lives of PWDs. Some beneficiaries have already experienced the transformative impact of these initiatives, with one beneficiary in catering service management crediting the programme with a significant improvement in her livelihood. However, the Special Adviser expressed concern over the low turnout of some PWDs for previous financial assistance schemes, urging them to participate in future programmes to maximise available opportunities.
The government's commitment to the welfare of PWDs extends beyond economic support. The administration has also approved a free healthcare programme for persons with disabilities, urging beneficiaries to register at primary healthcare centres within their communities to access medical services at no cost. As Ekiti State continues to navigate the challenges of inclusive governance, this programme serves as a shining example of the state government's dedication to leaving no one behind.
